A New Way of Being is a short experimental film that layers a collection of images, words, movements, sounds and echoes of the violent feelings rippling through vulnerable bodies.

This film is a tremor piece of a feeling of a generation haunted by not only its past but also stirred by its present. The featured poem was written out of frustration, anger, anxiety, fear, bravery, joy and determination to escape systemic violence as a vulnerable person. Female. ‘Foreigner’. Child. Queer. Black. Coloured. Anything other than dominant and oppressive, therefore oppressed, silenced and killed.

We imagine and envision the ghosts of past infrastructures merged into spaces of the virtual planetary suggestions. A New Way of Being – where the vulnerable – can gather in safety, song and surrender at the pain of being alive {or dead} but the beauty of growing within the storm with the sun always holding strong towards our skin.

About Ilze Mari Wessels & Vuyolwethu Reoagile

{Wo}M_B_nifesto is a collaboration between Vuyolwethu Reoagile and Ilze Mari Wessels that interrogates women’s creative futures through a collaborative process using various mediums. “All great movements begin with a manifesto, a declaration of intent, identity and purpose. This project will explore who we are as creative [Wo]m_n in the global creative landscape.”, writes Vuyolwethu, Creative Writer & Content Curator (IG: @graphlux.digital) based in Joburg.   “The disrupted economies urge us, creatives, to use our talents as our currency; thus the project aims to explore and create new ways of engagement through art, language and network as derived from the [wo]m_n / female economies as distinct dialogue generators for resilient and sustained and able society in Africa.”, writes Ilze Mari, Artist & Digital Architect (IG: @OTY_NET) also based in Joburg.  Get to know us: https://vreoagile.wordpress.com/wom_b_anifesto/
